The Mentoring Institute @ UNM, the UNM Health Sciences Center Office for Diversity, and the UNM Division for Equity and Inclusion are pleased to call for proposals for the 10th Annual Mentoring Conference in the strand of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.

We invite faculty, staff, and students of higher education, researchers, K-12 educators, community leaders, administrators, non-profit partners, government agencies, and other professionals to join us in a rich mix of conversation, networking opportunities, hands-on workshops, and engagement among scholars and professionals in the fields of mentoring, coaching, and leadership.

What We Are Looking For

We are particularly keen to receive proposals that are:
(a) Informative and relevant to the field of developmental relationships
(b) Supported by theory and research
(c) Demonstrate ideas that are applicable to the conference theme
The term 'Developmental Relationships' includes, but is not limited to mentoring, coaching, networking, and sponsorship. 

We are interested in proposals that particularly accomplish any of the following:

  • Demonstrates the effectiveness of mentoring, coaching, or leadership programs to promote diversity, equity, or inclusion

  • Proposes effective practices to mentor, coach, and lead diverse populations

  • Suggests methodologies and tools for diversity training within developmental relationships

  • Recommends effective practices for cross-cultural relationships

  • Offers innovative ideas for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of developmental relationships for diversity, equity, and inclusion

Presentation Requirements

Accepted presenters must meet the following requirements (please read carefully):

  • Abstract Submission: Abstracts should be submitted through our website, and must not exceed 250 words.

  • Presentation: Individual/panel sessions are assigned a 45-minute slot; we suggest a TED Talk format for the first 30 minutes of the presentation, 10 minutes for Q&A, and 5 minutes for the session's evaluation.

  • Paper: Submission of a 5-7-page paper on the topic of your presentation is mandatory. Papers will be peer-reviewed and published in the conference proceedings. In addition to your individual/panel presentation, we strongly suggest to bring a poster to be displayed during the conference poster session. You do not need to write an additional poster paper; however, you will need to submit a Microsoft Power-Point file (template will be provided) with the content of your poster. Outstanding papers and presentations will be selected for publication at UNM's peer-reviewed journal The Chronicle of Mentoring and Coaching.

  • Poster: Poster-only presenters are required to submit a 1-2 page paper describing the content of their poster. All poster presenters are also required to submit a Microsoft Power-Point file (template will be provided) with the graphic content of the poster.

  • Registration: Presenters must register for the conference; registration grants access to 13 plenary/round table/poster sessions and more than 300 individual/panel sessions. As a token of our appreciation for presenters' contributions, accepted presenters will receive a 20% discount from the standard registration of $500 to a $400 presenter fee. Please, register by using your acceptance code.

  1. Call For Proposals Release: May 22nd

  2. Abstract Submission: June 12th

  3. Acceptance Notification: June 19th

  4. Presenter Registration: July 1st

  5. First-Draft of Paper: July 15th

  6. Peer Review Process: July 15th to August 15th

  7. Final Paper Edition: August 16th to September 14th

  8. Final Paper Submission: September 15th
