Abstract

A partnership between teachers and business partners that evolved into a strong comentoring relationship is presented in this paper. The findings indicate systemic planning, shared goals, respect, trust, and communication created and sustained the co-mentoring partnership. The benefits of co-mentoring relationships are discussed (e.g., no power differential, involves a reciprocal knowledge and skills transfer, career advancement, increased work satisfaction, enhanced self-esteem, and a sense of well-being). The author relays how and why a co-mentoring relationship worked for the participants and how it may apply to others interested in co-mentoring relationships. The importance of future research on the same co-mentoring relationships and others like it is presented.

Keywords: co-mentoring, educational partnerships, mentoring in education in America, informal mentoring
