About the Publication

The 2025 Quarterly Issue of the Chronicle of Mentoring & Coaching (CMC) presents double-blind peer-reviewed articles and one book review. Each work uniquely addresses the theme for Volume 9, Issue 2 of the CMC — Sustaining Mentoring Communities of Practice. Each article and the book review are based on the ongoing research, project or program development, and theory or concept generation by authors. Eight articles contributed to this issue are an extension of or an elaboration on previous CMC Special Conference Issue publications from presentations at a conference held within the previous three years at The University of New Mexico. Two articles were written by previous conference plenary/keynote speakers based on their ongoing mentoring research.

The  Mentoring  Institute’s  annual  conferences  have  focused  on  increasing  our collective understanding of developmental relationships while discovering effective evidence-based  practices  to  establish  high-quality  connections  for  performance improvement.  In  addition  to  proposals  regarding  theoretical  models,  conceptual papers, and systematic literature reviews advancing scholarship in the mentoring field, the purpose of each conference was to explore the impact of developmental relationships and networks on individuals and organizations. Understanding what works for whom, when, where, and why in promoting healthy and high-quality developmental relationships requires attention to current, evolving, and dynamic paradigms to create the appropriate conditions within our programs, organizations, and communities.

Member-contributors for this issue are individuals or from writing teams that penned the works. Each was invited to build the knowledge and skills of mentors and coaches, as well as deepen our understanding about this diverse field and the impact of mentoring, coaching, and leadership. As previous Mentoring Institute presenters and CMC contributors, members from each writing team also participated in the peer review process for this journal. The philosophy of the Mentoring Institute is to include authors in the peer review process, because we believe that all writers, researchers, and presenters, who mentor, coach, and lead others are collective contributors to the mentoring literature in their disciplines and fields. Thus, each of us belongs to a community of practice comprised of mentor scholars and practitioners. Authors as peer reviewers provide an additional avenue for members in this community of scholars to mentor through their expertise by engaging, developing, sponsoring, and empowering others.
